A Brief History
In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s Plessey and other manufacturers of Film Capacitors were seeking distribution partners for their products in the New England market. In spite of their efforts, none of the established distributors were interested in carrying this type of product. Plessey Capacitors turned to their local Manufacturers Representative, Gerber Sales Corporation. The manufacturer asked Gerber Sales and all their area reps to stock popular values of their products to serve customers in their respective territories.
By 1972 a fairly substantial inventory was built up and Atlantic Components was founded (as a division of Gerber Sales Corporation) to handle the film capacitor buy / resale operation. In 1979 a German capacitor manufacturer name Roederstein setup a plant in the Statesville, North Carolina. In late 1979 Atlantic Components became Roederstein Electronics’ first distributor in the United States of America.
By 1992 Atlantic Components held ten product line franchises. To accommodate the substantial growth, the company moved out of the Gerber Sales office and into their own office and warehouse space. To avoid a conflict of interest with Gerber Sales’ principals, Atlantic Components was not actively promoted in the New England area. In 1996 Gerber Sales Corporation was sold off and Atlantic Components Corporation was formed.
Today Atlantic Components is a privately owned, regional distributor that focuses primarily on the High Power, Medical and Industrial segments of the New England electronics market.
Our systems and procedures are flexible enough to meet the ever changing needs of our customers. This flexibility coupled with our service and innovation allows us to maintain a competitive edge over fellow regional distributors as well as the large national distributors.
AtCom does not claim to be everything to everyone, nor do we carry every product under the sun. We offer value to our customers by distributing a group of niche products from over twenty five world class manufacturers. Our strength comes from being technically trained, keeping inventory, and maintaining excellent relationships with both our customer and supplier partners.
